What is the NBN?

It is the next-generation broadband network designed to meet Australia’s future needs. The network will provide reliable high speed broadband access to all Australians and is made up of three technologies, optical fibre, fixed wireless and next generation satellite.

Who’s responsible for the Network?

The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an initiative of the Australian Government and is administered by the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. The NBN will provide the infrastructure that will allow telephone on internet service providers to deliver advanced digital services to the nation.

NBN Co is the company that has been set up by the Australian Government to design, build and operate the NBN. NBN Co will be responsible for the roll out of the network and the sale of services to telephone on internet service providers.

What’s all the fuss about?

This multi-billion dollar investment will be the single largest nation building infrastructure project in Australian history. By the end of the 10 year roll out NBN Co plans to connect all Australian premises to this new high-speed broadband network.
