We monitor traffic movements and where warranted, look at installing traffic control devices and other road safety measures as a means to increase road safety and manage local traffic conditions. The improvements may be linked with other programs including road reconstruction programs or urban regeneration projects.
If you witness bad driver behaviour such as speeding, burnouts, tailgating, etc, please report to the police (SAPOL - Traffic Watch program) by phoning 131 444.
Requests for temporary, full or partial road closures for an event, parade, march or construction work will be considered by Council. Please contact us for further information and to discuss your requirements. Any road closures which impact on a DPTI road (ie North East Road etc) will require the approval of DPTI.
We are responsible for installing and maintaining road name signs as well as traffic control signage that warn and guide road users. Please report any damaged or missing signs by contacting us.
We are also responsible for line marking new and existing roads and streets. If existing roads lines have faded or need repainting please contact us.
The placement, size, shape, content and colour of signs, hoardings and advertisements on premises adjoining or in view of a public place should not cause a potentially unsafe distraction to the drivers of motor vehicles. They must be compatible with the design and character of the premises and land use to which they are related and with the streetscape and amenity of their locality, provide useful information and be reasonably acceptable to the community as a whole.
Application to position a movable sign must be made to us and are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Damaged signs should always be reported.
