Backyard burning refers to the burning of household waste by residents on their properties.
Council has prohibited backyard burning in incinerators or in the open on domestic properties, except for Rural A, Rural Living, Hills Face and the Mount Lofty Ranges zones. Burning is only allowed in residential zones if you are cooking i.e. wood barbecues, making tomato sauce.
No burning is allowed anywhere if a total fire ban has been issued on the day.
For the purpose of protecting your Rural A, Rural Living, Hills Face and the Mount Lofty Ranges zoned property from bushfire we recommend you obtain a permit to burn off dead branches and fallen leaves outside the Fire Danger Season between 1 May and 30 November.
A permit issued by the Country Fire Service (CFS) is required during Fire Danger Season.
Please contact Council's Fire Prevention Officer on (08) 8397 7444 during office hours for further information.
