Youth
Introduction
Our Youth Development Program aims to recognise, value, support and encourage the contribution and participation of young people in our community who are aged between 12 - 25 years, by providing a wide range of opportunities, programs and services. Young people play a vital part in our community and contribute to the economic, social and environmental aspects of community life ad we aim to actively seek the ideas, skills, input and creativity of young people in the development of a wide variety of programs, events and services.
Youth Action
Being a part of Youth Action will open the doors to many exciting opportunities. It is also a great way to meet new friends and to be part of a dynamic team of young people who focus on planning, delivering and evaluating fun and interactive events for the young people in our community.
It's free for young people aged 14 - 25 years to join Youth Action. The group meets on the first and last Thursday of every month at the City of Tea Tree Gully, 571 Montague Road, Modbury from 4- 6pm to plan, organise and deliver exciting and interactive events and programs.
So if you're passionate about event planning and want to gain new skills then why not apply to become a Youth Action member, and be a part of making a positive and active change in your community.
Get the Drift
On Monday 13 February 2012, 300 high school students gathered at the Adelaide Festival Centre to learn how to cope with life's challenges.
Get the Drift was hosted by the Eastern Region Alliance - consisting of the Cities of Tea Tree Gully, Burnside, Campbelltown, Norwood Payneham St Peters, Prospect, Unley and the Town of Walkerville - in association with the Green Room, the Adelaide Festival Centre Youth Arts membership program.
Students from Years 8-10 from 11 high schools took part in a number of workshops designed to help them learn how to deal with the pressures of being a teenager.
Workshops were presented by a range of youth, education and health service providers, and covered topics such as safe partying, cultural awareness, driver safety, relaxation, healthy relationships, body image and fitness.
Key note speakers this year included City of Prospect Mayor David O' Loughlin and Young South Australian of the year Khadija Gbla.
This was the fourth time Get the Drift has been offered and helped address a number of strategies identified in the Eastern Region Youth Action Plan.
