What's it all about?
This book discussion group is for young people aged 12 - 18 years.
Once a month, for an hour or more after school and uni, a group of teens (and almost teens) get together in the Young Adult Fiction area of the library for Cover2Cover, our youth book discussion group. In between munching on a variety of snacks (chips, lollies, chocolates and tasty baked goods), downing cups of soft drink or juice and sharing their latest news, members discuss books they've been reading, recommend them to others in the group, submit reviews for the library catalogue, and select from some of the latest additions to the Young Adult collection to be reviewed later.
All Cover2Cover members are issued with a special membership card that provides them with an extended borrowing time on their books. This allows enough time to read and review the books they have selected.
Latest Happenings
Each meeting we aim to have a different focus or theme, just to keep things interesting with discussions and activities as well as planning sessions for future meetings.
Cover2Cover allows young people to not only review new material but share ideas about favorite authors and books. Participants have wide and eclectic tastes; including but not limited to fantasy novels like Harry Potter, horror writers such as Steven King and Australian authors including John Marsden, making it ideal for every reader.
One of the most popular benefits of being a member is the opportunity to be part of the bi-yearly book-buying trip. Early on a Saturday, members meet at a bookstore, are each given a small, personal budget, and are invited to be actively involved in shaping their library by choosing books that they want to have in the Young Adult Collection.
