Auditing

Introduction

Our Environmental Health Officers administer the Food Act and the associated Food Safety Standards on our behalf. Environmental Health Officers inspect all local food businesses to ensure compliance with this legislation.

In October 2008, with the introduction of Food Safety Standard 3.3.1 meant a mandatory Food Safety Program was developed and introduced by us. All businesses serving food to vulnerable populations were to be audited against this standard.

The populations this standard aims to protect include the elderly, the immunocompromised and children under 5.

Businesses most likely to fall into the category of needing to meet these standards include but are not limited to: Aged Care Facilities, Child Care Centres, Hospitals & Nursing homes.

These businesses are required to have developed their own Food Safety Program which tracks and records all food handling activities occurring within the business.

The Food Safety Program must be audited on a routine basis by an accredited Food Safety Auditor.

We currently have four accredited Auditors which can undertake the audit of Food Safety Programs.
