Tips for Quality Application Writing

A great covering letter should state the position you are applying for, why you're applying and why you think you are a suitable candidate.  The cover letter should be tailored to the advertised position, addressing the key criteria with your experiences and knowledge.

A great curriculum vitae (CV) should be tailored to address the role you are applying for.  Ensure that it is easy to read, honest and accurate.  Your CV may include:

  • Personal details - including current name, address, email and phone numbers
  • Career Objective
  • Education - details of qualifications gained, where and when
  • Employment History - list in reverse chronology (start with the most recent) employment experience, includes dates and an overview of main responsibilities and achievements whilst employed in that role
  • Skills and training
  • Referees

Tips For Making The Most of Your Interview

A selection panel will consist of at least two members and will follow a set format for all interviewees. A set of structured questions will be asked tailored around the position criteria.

  • Research - look at our website to familiarise yourself with our values, structures and other relevant information
  • Be punctual!
  • First Impressions Count - dress according to the position you have applied for and remember to maintain good eye contact during the interview
  • Be prepared and practice your responses - have examples of previous experiences ready.  Maybe write down some example questions in the lead up to the interview and practice your responses.  Always be prepared to discuss your strengths and areas in which you may require further development!
  • Questions - consider any questions that you may have of the panel, write them down and ask them when the opportunity arises.

Remember that an interview is a two way process - we will learn more about you but you will also learn more about us and the position that you have applied for!
