We are committed to ensuring that our community has all the relevant information to meaningfully participate in community engagement activities.

Community engagement is about providing communities with the opportunity to have a greater say in what happens in their City and to be more active in the decision making process.

Making decisions on behalf of 100,000 people is no easy task, so it is important for us to take into account the views of the community when making decisions or seeking to choose a direction on a particular topic.

Before undertaking any community engagement activity we will consider what the appropriate level or levels of engagement should be and this will be influenced by a number of factors such as the number of people potentially affected and community interest in the topic.

The levels are based on the best practice International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) spectrum:
Inform: Council will share information about a decision or direction.
Consult: Council will explore options, gain feedback and an understanding or your preferences.
Involve: Your ideas and issues will be reflected in the final decision or recommendations.
Collaborate: Your recommendations will be included in the final decision.

Within these levels are a number of different ways we might go about gaining feedback and/or working with the community. These include feedback forms and surveys (paper and/or online), workshops and events.
