Public Health

Introduction

Public health is "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals" (1920, C.E.A. Winslow)

Our Environmental Health Officers provide a range of public and environmental health services for business, residents and visitors to the City to:

  • prevent disease transmission
  • ensure a safe food supply
  • ensure there is safe and healthy living accommodation.

They are bound by legislation, including:

  • Supported Residential Facilities Act and Regulations
  • Food Act 2001 and Food Safety Standards
  • Public & Environmental Health Act.
