Memorial Drive upgrade

Memorial Drive at Tea Tree Gully is undergoing a staged makeover to improve traffic flow, pedestrian access and general liveability and safety.

Due to the significant historic value for our local veterans, we're working in consultation with the Tea Tree Gully Returned and Services League (RSL), heritage advisors and Avenues of Honour.

“We’re very supportive of this project and will be working closely with Council to ensure the historical significance of the area is retained,” said Tea Tree Gully RSL sub branch president Malcolm Fergusson.

See below for more details on where we're up to with this project.

Stage 1 - $1.2 million
Completed July 2021

  • Replace culvert, which was approaching end of life
  • Construct new road and footpaths, from the culvert to Neale Street
  • Remove some pine trees

Stage 2 - $800,000
Due for completion by July 2022 - start date to be advised

  • Improve road, traffic, stormwater, footpath and landscaping between Neale Street and Tea Tree Gully Memorial Oval
  • Remove remaining pine trees, subject to a development approval
  • Choose replacement trees in consultation with the local RSL, heritage advisors and Avenues of Honour
  • Acknowledge fallen soldiers - design options currently being investigated
