A new state-of-the-art roof over two of Modbury Bowling Club’s synthetic greens heralds a new era for lawn bowls in our City.

“Whether it’s rain, hail, snow or sunshine, we can still bowl. “It’s great for the community, membership and competition. It’s now one of the best facilities around,” said club president Jose Gil.

“Everyone is very proud and very excited. Bowls SA is scheduling some high-performance training here now that we have the roof. It’s going to help us attract more members.

Installation of the roof, including a lighting upgrade, was completed last week, and officially opened on 22 July 2022.

“The new roof and lighting have taken this venue to a new level. The roof is going to make a big difference for player comfort, particularly during summer,” said Deputy Mayor Lucas Jones.

The upgrade was funded by the Council ($750,000), State Government ($739,250) and the club ($100,000).

The Council also installed two new synthetic bowling greens at the club in 2019 at a cost of $1.6 million. The greens were funded by the Council ($650,000), State Government ($750,000) and the club $200,000.

The greens were the first of their kind in South Australia and meet world bowls standards.

Modbury Bowling Club is located in the Modbury Sporting Hub, which borders Golden Grove Road, Ridgehaven. More than 1,000 people bowl at the club every week during summer.

See the Modbury Bowling Club website for details on how to get involved, including training for beginners.
