Be on the look out for swooping magpies as their breeding season is underway.

Generally attacks are by male magpies who want to protect their eggs and chicks.

The good news is that the season is normally completed here by early October.

In the meantime, consider trying these helpful hints:

  • Avoid the area where the magpies are nesting - see the Magpie Alert website for updates
  • Wear sunglasses and a hard hat such as a bike helmet
  • Carry a stick or an open umbrella above your head
  • Walk, don’t run
  • Cyclists should try wheeling their bikes through magpie territory.
