Welcoming our 2023 Youth Leaders
Published on 17 May 2023
The City of Tea Tree Gully is proud to welcome the young people taking part in our 2023 Youth Leadership Program.
In weekly interactive sessions, these young people will develop their confidence and leadership skills while gaining valuable hands-on experience in designing, planning and delivering Council youth events, such as the Youth Achievement Awards and Youth Leadership Conference. The program will culminate in a graduation ceremony in October.
“We’re so excited to welcome our 2023 youth leaders! This program offers a great opportunity for young people to increase their confidence, self-esteem and connect with a network of like-minded people,” said Chauntelle Westley, Youth Wellbeing Officer.
For the program's participants, there are multiple reasons they have chosen to participate in the Youth Leadership Program. Siya said she “joined to gain new skills, such as public speaking, and an opportunity to collaborate with others." She is looking forward to the event planning and the public speaking workshops and wants to improve her skills in confidently speaking in front of people and at events.
For another program participant, Caitlin, her aim is to expand her skills and involvement in the community, saying "I am excited to work with the community and learn amazing skills along the way.”
Meanwhile, Nicole's motivation for joining the program is “to spread kindness and to learn how to navigate becoming a strong and influential leader.”
“We hope that they will use the valuable leadership skills learnt in this program and apply them in their everyday life, school or work environments. We are proud to be positively influencing this generation’s future leaders,” said Chauntelle.
Applications for the 2024 Youth Leadership Program will open in March 2024.
