Warning on swarming bees

Bees swarming on a plant

Tea Tree Gully Council staff are responding to a number of reports of swarming bees and wasps.

This trend is expected to continue until at least December as it is the season when new queen bees are challenging current queen bees, with each loser leaving hives with a swarm of followers.

The bees usually settle with 24 hours, but can cause concern, particularly if near schools or playgrounds.

What to do

  • On Council land - Call 8397 7444 to request removal
  • On private property - Call an apiarist or private pest control company.
