A warning has been issued after low-levels of blue-green algae were this morning detected in Wynn Vale Dam.
Signs were installed as a precautionary measure today to inform the community.
The blue-green algae is mostly near the water’s edge and is currently not a cause for alarm, said Council’s Water Resources Specialist Jonathan Foong.
“We are monitoring water quality and are working with authorities to address the situation.”
Mr Foong said that recent warm dry weather had provided ideal environmental conditions for blue-green algae to multiply.
People and their pets should keep away from the water at Wynn Vale Dam. Swimming, boating and fishing are also unsafe when blue-green algae warnings are in place.
Blue-green algal blooms are potentially dangerous to human, animal and fish health.
