Chris McLafferty has been declared elected by the Deputy Returning Officer (Electoral Commission SA) after receiving almost half of the vote in the Steventon ward supplementary election.

Ms McLafferty will represent the Steventon ward along with Cr Lucas Jones JP after she is sworn in at the 13 March Council meeting.

Ms McLafferty said she was overwhelmed by the level of support she had received from the community and thanked all the people who voted for her.

‘I am delighted to be given an opportunity to represent the residents of the Steventon ward and the broader City’, she said.

‘The Council area is really starting to take shape, and I look forward to building on the great work my fellow Councillors have already achieved, while keeping council rates as low as practicably possible.

I am focused on ensuring an environmentally sustainable future for our area and I am keen to see city beautification works continue.’

The vacancy was created following the passing of Chris’s husband Jim McLafferty in November 2017.

The Steventon ward includes the suburbs of Surrey Downs, Fairview Park, Banksia Park, Tea Tree Gully, Vista, Yatala Vale, Houghton, Upper Hermitage, Gould Creek and part of Golden Grove.

We thank all candidates for their involvement, as well as everyone who voted.
