About 100 people participated in the first of the Sunset Yoga on Civic Park series on Wednesday night.

First-timers through to experienced yoga practitioners came carrying yoga mats to join the community event - striking downward dog, warrior and child poses together as one.

Participant Trudy Wishart of Wynn Vale, a first-time yoga participant, went along to the yoga event with her four daughters.

“The fact that we could go as a family and experience something new was great. It was a fantastic initiative by the Council. We will certainly be going to the other sessions,” said Trudy Wishart.

Event organiser Chloe Oborn said the yoga series was about drawing the community together and improving wellbeing and health.

“Yoga is such a great way to exercise. It increases strength and flexibility and once you know the moves, you can practice indoors or in the great outdoors,” said Chloe.

Classes are led by internationally experienced Jen Kokoska, combining a knowledge of hatha, vinyasa, restorative and yin-style yoga.

Sessions will continue to be held on Wednesdays at 7pm at Modbury’s Civic Park throughout March.
