Proposed $12 million community building at Golden Grove moves a step closer - 14 April 2021
The construction of a proposed $12 million multi-use community building in Golden Grove moved a step closer at last night's Tea Tree Gully Council meeting.

Elected Members have asked the Council's CEO to sign off on a $6 million State Government grant agreement to help fund construction of the building.

Before construction can go ahead, a prudential report - to control financial risks -  will need to be commissioned and approved by councillors, due to the significant costs involved.

See the story below for details on what could be included in the proposed building and how it could benefit many members of our community, in addition to local sporting groups.

$12 million community building at Golden Grove receives funding boost - 25 March 2021

A $12 million multi-use community building could be on the way in Golden Grove at Harpers Field recreation area and adjoining Council-owned land.

The City of Tea Tree Gully received news this week that a $6 million grant had been approved for the project, through the State Government’s Local Government Infrastructure Program.

The proposed building would incorporate a new club room facility for the Golden Grove Football and Cricket Club.

High-level designs show a split-level building, with a community space on the ground floor and sporting club room on the upper level. The community space has multiple zoned areas for community groups to use.

“With the number of requests from active recreation groups, low impact exercise programs and arts and creative groups exceeding the community space currently available, the establishment of a new community complex will help us address this need.”

“The building, including a ‘Community Shed’, will enhance the wellbeing of our community through providing a contemporary gathering place for community groups, an incubator space for new groups and a dynamic space for community programs and activities.”

“Our sporting facilities are also under increasing pressure, especially with the upsurge in women’s sport.” said Deputy Mayor Lucas Jones.

The Golden Grove Football Club has been located at Harpers Field since 2008. It has 39 junior and senior teams.

“This is an exciting new stage in the young life of the Golden Grove Football Club with the new community building providing increased space for all sporting members to play and socialise” said Golden Grove Football Club President Kate Grandey.

Elected Members will consider the funding offer next month.
