Dog parks and off leash areas

Leashing your dog can save you, your dog and others a lot of pain.

Any dog can bite if it’s frightened, anxious or feels threatened.

When your dog is on a leash, you have a better chance of controlling it and avoiding what could become a distressing or tragic situation.

On leash areas

Dogs must be exercised on a leash in the following areas:

  • Streets and footpaths
  • Reserves with playgrounds
  • Flora and fauna reserves
  • Wetland areas
  • Dry Creek -  except the areas where signs say dogs may be exercised off-leash
  • Linear Park - except the areas where signs say dogs may be exercised off-leash

Dogs must be under the effective control of a competent person by means of an adequate chain, cord or leash (2 metres or less) within 5 metres of any playground.

Off leash dog parks

Council has three designated off leash dog parks:

Off leash areas

While off leash, your dog must be under the effective control of a competent person. Please ensure your dog is under voice control, within sight and near you at all times.  Please be courteous of others sharing the off lead space with you.  Call your dog away from other dogs or people, unless they are obviously seeking interaction.  If you can't call your dog away from another person or dog, please don't let if off the lead.

See specific off leash areas in the City of Tea Tree Gully:

All reserves are default off leash areas for dogs under effective control (excluding those in the maps) or unless otherwise signed.

Dog prohibited areas

Dogs are prohibited from being on sporting playing surfaces. They may be exercised on-leash on the areas immediately surrounding playing fields.

Pick up after your dog

Pick up your dog's poo as on-the-spot fines apply. Some dog exercise areas provide dispensers with dog litter bags but please also carry your own in case they are temporarily unavailable.
