Socialising your dog

Council's dog obedience program

Held every Wednesday at 7pm from February to November. The program will be closed from 28 November and returning in 2019 on 30 January for new members, and 6 February for existing members.

At Ashley Reserve, Ashley Avenue, Ridgehaven - just behind Waterworld Aquatic Centre

  • Training lasts approximately half an hour
  • Dogs must be at least 16 weeks of age

Enrol or renew your dog obedience membership

Attending for the first time

Please arrive at 6.45pm with your dog. An instructor will assess your dog and provide details of the program and an enrolment form. Payment of the appropriate fee is required before you return the following week to commence training.

  • Up-to-date dog vaccination certificates must be provided when joining and after your dog has had its yearly vaccination
  • A collar and lead is needed for your dog on the first night
  • Membership fees are payable.
Fees
  • $40 per dog per year
    Membership renewal is due annually on the anniversary of first joining.
Inclement weather

To find out if dog obedience training has been cancelled due to inclement weather, call Ray - dog obedience volunteer, on 0413 136 644.

Note: If the weather forecast for Wednesday is 35C or over, dog obedience training will be cancelled - weather forecast is taken from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) website on Tuesday night.

Exercising your dog

Off leash areas

Dogs may be exercised off lead in the following designated dog parks:

Whilst off leash your dog must be under the effective control of a competent person.

On leash areas

Dogs must be exercised whilst on a leash in the following areas:

  • Streets and footpaths
  • Reserves with playgrounds
  • Flora and fauna reserves
  • Wetland areas
  • Dry Creek
  • Linear Park - except the areas where dogs may be exercised off leash

Dogs must be under the effective control of a competent person by means of an adequate chain, cord or leash.

Dog prohibited areas

Dogs are prohibited from being on sporting playing surfaces. They may be exercised on leash on the areas immediately surrounding playing fields.

Pick up after your dog

Please ensure that you always pick up your dog's droppings as on the spot fines apply. Some dog exercise areas provide dispensers with dog litter bags but please do not rely entirely on their availability, please also carry your own.
