Guided Aboriginal Art Session with Sasha Hill
In this guided session you will learn about Central Western Desert art styles, the use of symbols in art, storytelling and song lines. We will also share a yarn about Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC and what the 2021 themes of ‘More than a word, Reconciliation Takes Action’ and ‘Heal Country’ means to you.
About the artist Sasha Hill: I have a duel identity; Irish on my mother’s side and Aboriginal on my father’s. I identify as a Yamatji/Noongar woman from the Central Western Desert. I have been painting since I was a little girl and have been lucky enough to be taught how to paint from some amazing, strong Aboriginal women. I have also been lucky enough to live and work on country back home in Western Australia. As a mother I also incorporate my art into my parenting and use this to teach my children, as well as my nieces and nephews and many other children about country, identity, and respect. I am also a social worker and use art therapy and Aboriginal ways of being and doing in my practice.
Suitable for beginners 18 years and up
