What's happening and why?

It's been 16 years since Tea Tree Gully Library opened here at 571 Montague Road, Modbury. Hard to believe we are almost at the end of our teenage years!

2019 is also the year we will upgrade our facilities and technology, to deliver a better customer experience for you.

It also gives us a chance to upgrade the look and feel of our library, so it feels fresh and equipped for the next decade.

During May and June, we will be:

  • Replacing existing carpet
  • Installing automated returns
  • Improving the entrance
  • Installing automated holds shelving

The total cost is expected to be approximately $833,000, which is being funded from existing Council building works funds.

What will change?

While there will be lots of changes to the appearance of the library, there won't be any disruptions to our services and events. Hopefully there won't be too much noise and construction around the library, but if there is, we'll let you know ahead of time.

As you can see from the artist impressions, the large customer service desk in the middle of the library and the 'Ask here' desk will be removed.

A new automated returns room will be installed, where you can return your items.

You will retrieve your hold items from a new automated shelving unit.

Your feet will grace brand new carpet!

The library will have an attractive new entrance.

This is all planned to take place over May and June. We don't have exact time frames yet, but will let you know as soon as we do.

What are the benefits?

Our changes are all about providing a better experience and service for our customers.

As part of the changes, the latest technology will be introduced to make it quicker to check in your items, which will automatically come off your record.

Staff will spend less time physically sorting items, so they'll have more time to help you with your queries.

Our survey results

In November 2018 we surveyed over 400 customers to see what they thought of our customer service, and were overwhelmed to receive a 98 per cent satisfaction rating! We hope these renovations make our Library even better.

The survey was designed by Colmar Brunton, and the 60 hours of interviewing took place over 7 days, ensuring coverage across all open hours of the Library across one week.
