Infant levels

Recommended ages: 6 months - 3.5 years

Basic levels

Recommended ages: 3.5  - 5 years (minimum height of 1.1mt)

Intermediate levels

Recommended ages: 5 - 10 years

Advanced levels

Recommended ages: 10 years and above

Infant level

Recommended ages: 6 months - 3.5 years

Baby and toddler classes are aimed at developing basic water awareness and confidence for students whilst sharing knowledge and skills that parents need to help children with their development. Students will gain confidence in and around the water. Parent/guardian is required in the water (one to one basis) with their child for class duration (30 mins). We recommend parents/guardians wear a t-shirt over their bathers so their child has something to hold onto.

Level 1 Starfish

  • water confidence - getting face wet
  • parent education
  • open eyes underwater
  • swim independently while wearing floaties
  • fun activities to encourage movement through water
  • parent aided float for 5 seconds
  • assisted dog paddle and kicking
  • assisted feet first entry and exit
  • breath control activities
  • basic survival skills

Level 2 Seahorse

  • submerge on command with breath control (bubbles)
  • unaided float for 10 seconds
  • minimal assisted roll - front float to back float
  • fall in from side and return to wall (with minimal assistance)
  • basic survival skills
  • climb out at wall (with minimal assistance)
  • swim independently while wearing aids
  • effective freestyle kick
  • stream-lined body position (torpedo)

Basic level

Recommended ages 3.5 to 5 years (minimum height of 1.1mt)

Classes are held in the shallow end of our  middle pool and focus on learning and developing propulsive (moving forward) skills. This is where we start to teach students basic strokes through to breathing. Classes are 30 minutes in length and do not require parents/guardians in the pool. 

Level 3 Jellyfish

  • torpedo for 3m with board
  • recover from a front/ back float
  • confident jump into deep water and return to side
  • submerge waist deep, object retrieval on command with breath control (bubbles)
  • be pulled to safety

Level 4 Stingray

  •  torpedo for 3mt unassisted
  • swim 5mt freestyle with a float
  • swim 5mt backstroke kick with kickboard
  • tread water for 5 seconds unassisted (sculling)
  • float for 15 seconds on back and recover

Intermediate levels

Recommended ages 5 to 10 years

Classes are held in our middle pool and the focus is on continuing stroke development towards advanced strokes. The focus is on more deep water safety techniques and some class/ times will be held in our main pool to ready students to progress to the advanced levels. Classes are 30 minutes in length and do not require parents/ guardians in the pool.

Level 5 Turtle

  • propel 10mt through water with float
  • swim 5mt backstroke
  • swim 5mt freestyle
  • tread water for 10 seconds unassisted (sculling)
  • swim 5mt basic breaststroke
  • float for 20 seconds on back and recover
  • glide forward and roll onto back, call for help using floatation aid & kick

Level 6 Yabby

  • swim 15mt freestyle - with breathing
  • swim 15mt backstroke
  • scull and tread water for 30 seconds
  • swim 10mt basic breastroke kick - with board
  • swim 15mt survival backstroke
  • experience wearing T-shirt and shorts in water
  • throw an aid to someone in trouble in the water

Level 7 Platypus

  • swim 25mt freestyle - with bilateral breathing
  • swim 25mt backstroke
  • swim 25mt effective breaststroke whip kick
  • swim 10mt basic butterfly kick
  • swim 25mt survival backstroke
  • experience wearing T-shirt and shorts in water and swim 10m
  • perform reach and throw rescues
  • tread water for 1 minute unassisted - sculling
  • dive into deep water
  • complete a forward somersault
  • retrieve an object from a depth of 1.5m
  • swim 10m side stroke

Advanced Levels

Recommended ages of 10 years and above .

All senior classes are taught in the 50m main pool. The focus is on performance, development, endurance and technique. Teenage and adult classes address individual abilities and needs. All classses are 30 minutes.

Level 8 Dolphin

  • swim 50mt freestyle - with bilateral breathing
  • swim 50mt backstroke
  • swim 25mt breaststroke - with arms, breathing and correct stroke timing
  • swim 10mt basic butterfly - with arms and breathing
  • racing dives into deep water - from starting blocks
  • freestyle tumble turn
  • retrieve an object from a depth of 1.8mt
  • stride entry
  • experience wearing long sleeve top and pants in water and swim 25mt

Level 9 Shark

  • swim 100mt freestyle - with bilateral breathings
  • swim 100mt backstroke
  • swim 100mt breast stroke - with arms, breathing and correct stroke timing
  • swim 20mt effective butterfly - with arms and breathing
  • survival skills / rescue scenarios
  • swim 200mt continual using survival strokes
  • racing dives into deep water - from starting blocks
  • freestyle and backstroke tumble turns
  • tread water for 1 minute with one arm extended above head
  • retrieval of object from deep water
