About the program

The Youth Leadership Program is for young people aged 15–22 who live, work, or study in the City of Tea Tree Gully.  It aims to boost your confidence, build self-esteem, and spark your inner motivation.  You’ll discover more about yourself and learn practical skills for everyday life, school or work. You will meet like-minded people whilst having lots of fun.

The program, co designed by previous participants, enhances community knowledge and expands your networks. You will gain valuable practical skills to support your journey.  Plus, you’ll even get to be apart of some council events and even plan and deliver one.

Participation in the program is open to everyone, and there are no specific prerequisites or requirements for joining. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels to join.

What can I expect

In Term 2, you'll explore various topics related to formal and personal leadership. You’ll hear from experts in the field and enjoy talks from guest speakers. You will get to meet and receive support from council staff.  Mentorship from past participants is also part of the deal.

On occasions, we’ll go on some fun excursions to get to know each other and get out of our comfort zone.

Towards the end of Term 2 and into Term 3, you'll use your newfound skills to plan the Youth Achievement Awards. This is night where we celebrate local young achievers.

Expect each week to be different, filled with fun games, activities, and snacks.  You’ll be part of a passionate group of young people working together. By collaborating you can make a big difference in the Tea Tree Gully community.

As leaders of the program, you'll represent young people in the City of Tea Tree Gully. There will be opportunities to have input in decisions that affect young people. You'll get to attend council events and enhance your communication and networking skills.

What are the commitments

The program runs every Tuesday from 4pm to 6.30pm during Term 2 and Term 3.

The program requires a commitment of two and a half hours per week, commencing Term 2. Youth Leaders who complete the course will be recognised for their commitments. There will be a graduation ceremony in October 2024.

It is not mandatory to attend every session. Although most are crucial to complete the program and receive your Graduation Certificate. Missing more than three sessions prompts a call from the Youth Wellbeing Officer. If you discover the program isn't your thing, that's fine. Let us know, so we don't bug you with an annoying phone call.
