Access and Inclusion Green Corridors

Green Corridors -

  • Green corridors benefit local communities by providing recreational opportunities as well as pedestrian and cycle movement through the City, stormwater management and wildlife habitat.
  • Ensure a safe and accessible environment compliant with crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) principles through a positive and active interface.
  • Use simple, clear and easily readable signs with symbols and text in multiple languages (depending on the local community) to help guide people through the space.
  • Ensure that the open space is well-lit at night to enhance safety and encourage use after dark.
  • Use sustainable materials, water management strategies (e.g. rain gardens, bioswales) and native plants to promote environmental stewardship and create a healthier space.
  • Design areas where people can engage in calming, restorative activities such as meditation, tai chi or mindful walking. Quiet gardens or nature areas can serve as places for mental rejuvenation.
