A new hotel has been constructed at Kingfisher Reserve, Modbury Heights. This was completed with the help of the community in 2025.
These hotels provide nesting sites for masked, resin, blue banded and leaf cutter native bees.
There are a variety of native bee food plants at each location.
Visit the demonstration garden next to the bee hotel at Kingfisher Reserve to learn more about gardening for native bees and butterflies. Native bees are essential for the health of our natural environment. They play an important role in pollinating gardens, horticultural crops and our bushland and native plants. Native bees are active during the warmer months, generally from October to March.
You can also build a bee hotel in your own backyard. They can be created in all shapes and sizes. Read the attached guidelines to give your hotel the best chance of attracting native bees.
