Why should I vote?
Voting in a council election can help you have a say in how your area grows and changes.
Voting is not compulsory like with state or federal elections, but it still helps decide who represents you in your area.
How can I vote?
From 11 March 2027, you will receive a voting ballot pack in the mail. It will be sent to the address that you is recorded on the voters roll.
The ballot pack contains:
- a ballot paper/s
- a candidate profile brochure
- a ballot paper envelope to be signed
- a reply-paid envelope
- a postal voting guide.
Most people receive just one ballot pack. However, if you have a business, property, or organisation in a different area, and have enrolled to vote in different council areas, you may get more.
When voting, you can refer to the list of candidates on the Electoral Commission SA website. Learn how to submit your ballot here.
All ballot papers are sent to the Electoral Commission of South Australia. ECSA will start counting votes on Saturday 14 November and post the results on their website.
Please note you may be eligible to vote by telephone. Visit ECSA to learn more.
