Golden Grove rezoning paves way for about 850 new houses
The state government has approved a rezoning proposal that clears the way for about 850 new homes in Golden Grove over the next 20 years.
The official approval of Golden Grove Neighbourhood Stage 1 and Golden Grove Master Planned Stage 2 code amendments releases about 104 hectares of land for housing, with a portion rezoned as Employment to create local jobs.
Plans show a mix of housing, parks, walking and cycling paths, as well as upgraded tree-lined roads. Landscaped buffers and other measures will allow new homes to sit comfortably alongside the nearby quarry.
Mayor Marijka Ryan said:
“The approval is a fantastic step that will help ease housing pressure and boost our local economy. This is wonderful news for our community. ”
The rezoning follows an extensive consultation process. The code amendment was led by a private developer.
The rezoned land – rezoned from Rural Living to Master Planned Neighbourhood– sits near the Stables Shopping Centre and Harpers Field.
One Tree Hill Road will be upgraded between Golden Grove and Falkenburg Roads, with developers covering most of the costs.
A social infrastructure fund has been established to support the development of community, sporting and social facilities in the broader Golden Grove area as the population grows.
