All adults should be up to date with routinely recommended vaccines such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and measles, mumps, rubella. Our clinic offers a range of vaccinations, including those for occupational purposes. Please see vaccine costs for further information.
Shingles vaccine
The shingles vaccine (Shingrix) is now available at our clinic.
The Shingrix vaccine is given as a 2-dose course, with a 2 month minimum timeframe between doses.
The vaccine is available for free to Medicare eligible people in at-risk groups listed below:
- All people aged 65 years and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over
- Selected groups aged 18 years and over considered at increased risk due to an underlying condition and/or immunomodulatory/immunosuppressive treatments.
If you have previously received a free Zostavax shingles vaccine, you are not eligible for a free Shingrix vaccine for at least 5 years from your last dose.
However, if you have previously purchased a Zostavax vaccine and you meet the above criteria, you are eligible for a Shingrix vaccine 12 months after receiving your last dose of Zostavax.
The Shingrix vaccine is available for purchase if you do not meet the above eligibility criteria - check fees.
Whooping cough
Babies do not have enough protection against whooping cough until they have had their third dose of the vaccine at six months of age. Adults are the most common source of whooping cough infection in young babies. All adults in regular contact with babies should be immunised every 10 years against whooping cough.
Note: pregnant women are encouraged to be immunised from 20 weeks gestation for each pregnancy to help protect their babies during the first weeks of life.
Increased risk occupations
Certain occupations may place you at increased risk of some vaccine-preventable diseases.
