Three people planting trees

A new biodiversity trail is on the way for the Banksia Park Sports Area, with local volunteers digging deep last month to help bring the project to life.

Two planting events were held on consecutive days in late July in the area next to the new Tea Tree Gully Gymsports building.

Thirteen local volunteers took part on the first day, with eight Banksia Park Primary School students helping with planting the following day.

About 500 native, shrubs and groundcovers were planted as part of Council's plans to improve biodiversity in the area. The trail will combine native vegetation, public art and educational signage to create a new place for people to connect with nature.

Local artist Melita Scott, whose work will feature on a series of interpretive signs highlighting local plants and animals, also joined in the planting effort.

The signs will be installed later this year.

Special thanks to Green Adelaide for their funding support of this project.

Further planting will take place next autumn.
