Tea Tree Gully Council has revealed plans for a brand new community wellbeing hub as part of a proposed $10 million upgrade of Highbury’s Turramurra Recreation Centre.

To help make the project a reality, Tea Tree Gully Council CEO Ryan McMahon has been asked to seek external funding to cover half the cost.

The plans show fit-for-purpose spaces for local recreation groups and a hub for wellbeing programs. They were inspired by the Harpers Field Community Hub at Golden Grove, built by Tea Tree Gully Council in 2024.

Accessibility improvements, refreshed interiors, new floors and ceilings in the foyer, cafe and hallways and a facade refresh for the existing recreation centre are also planned.

Mayor Marijka Ryan said the proposed upgrade would create more opportunities for the community.

“It’s time we had a facility like this. The needs of our community have evolved since the centre was built in the 1970s.

“I really hope the state and federal governments get behind it.”

The project is still subject to final approval as part of Council budget processes.

Turramurra Recreation Centre offers fitness programs for seniors, netball and basketball and a Junior Gym program for children under five.
