Where dogs take the lead
Dogs are getting a new leash on life at Tilley Recreation Park’s new dog park.
This Surrey Downs dog park has all the ingredients to set tails wagging – separate areas for big and small dogs, plus plenty of places to run, sniff and explore.
And for discerning hounds, signage features artwork in blues and yellows, the colours that dogs can see!
The artwork, created by SA illustrator Wendy Dixon-Whiley, is of four cartoon dogs: Benley, Tilley, Ash and Goldie – each named after a local dog park.
Wynn Vale resident Pat Jordan, who recently visited the park for the first time with her miniature labradoodle Ziggy, said she plans to return regularly and has already recommended the park to other dog owners.
“It’s great for your dogs to have a bit of freedom and a bit of fun with other dogs. Ziggy has just turned two and still loves to get out and play,” she said.
The dog park is part of stage 2 of Tea Tree Gully Council’s $9.5 million masterplan project for the overall park, which also includes works at the Tea Tree Players Theatre.
A striking mural, painted by local artist Nina Barnden earlier this year, has already transformed the rear of the theatre.
Stage 2 also covered installation of public toilets, additional car parking, footpaths and storage for sporting clubs.
A new clubroom for the Tea Tree Gully City Soccer Club was created in Stage 1 works.
Thank you to the state government for $6.2 million in funding for the masterplan project.
