Council is empowering kids to help solve a monster problem – food waste and valuable resources going into landfill.

Environment and Sustainability Education Officer Johanna Anstey visits schools and early learning centres to teach children how to sort their waste correctly and understand the impact of their choices.

“It promotes a sense of active citizenship, builds confidence and leadership, and shows them how to take responsibility for the world around them,” Johanna said.

“Teaching good habits early empowers people to make positive changes both at school and at home and creates lifelong behaviours that support a healthier environment.”

Students are encouraged to share this learning with their family and friends – after all, a monster problem needs a monster-sized solution.

Free waste education lessons, aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum, are available to childcare centres, kindergartens and schools in the City of Tea Tree Gully.
