Balmoral Ward update

Thank you to everyone who shared their views throughout the 2026–27 Annual Business Plan and Budget consultation process. After carefully considering residents’ feedback, the current and long-term financial outlook, and the impact on households, we both voted against the proposed 2026–27 rate increase.

Budget decisions are among the most significant responsibilities of elected members, and we respect that councillors may reach different conclusions after weighing the available information. Our view was that a lower rate increase should have been pursued, particularly in light of the ongoing cost-of-living pressures facing many households.

The budget was ultimately adopted by Council following the Mayor’s casting vote. In the interests of transparency, we believe it is important that residents know how their elected representatives voted on decisions that directly affect them.

We remain committed to carefully scrutinising future budgets, promoting value for money, supporting responsible financial management, and ensuring Council continues to deliver essential services while investing in our community’s future.
