Kingfisher Reserve activation project
Ridgehaven Primary School's year six students have participated in an environmental leadership program run by the City of Tea Tree Gully this year.
They visited the reserve each season to observe environmental changes and participate in different activities.
Earlier this month, they conducted guided tours for their peers, family members and council, highlighting the area's significance environmentally and culturally.
The program was even shortlisted for the 2025 LG Professionals SA Leadership Excellence Awards.
Biodiversity Technical Officer Sabine Koolen said its impact would be far-reaching.
“We wanted to foster that love of nature and the local natural environment, as well as the area’s cultural heritage,” Sabine said.
“It’s not just about the students who were there, it’s that ripple effect you get – once they have that knowledge, they can pass that on to their family and friends.”
The program has been a successful collaboration between the City of Tea Tree Gully, Ridgehaven Primary School, Green Adelaide, Trees For Life (SA) and The Friends of Dry Creek Trail. Thank you also to the Golden Grove Lions Club for putting on a sausage sizzle at the event.
